We’re two days into the first session of summer school at Appalachian State and I’m already buzzing with anticipation to see what the next few weeks have in store. As a lover of social media and a college student studying communications, I often find myself wondering about their interconnectivity and the impact they have on us—individually and as a society—as a whole. I’ve compiled a list of questions and goals about social media that I hope to answer and one day achieve:

  1. Do our interpersonal approaches greatly affect mass communication, or are they more individualized forms of communication?

  2. A goal I would like to achieve is having an active and accomplished online presence as a professional.

  3. As a millennial, I often wonder if it’s appropriate to keep and actively use the non-professional social media accounts I’ve had since I was a teenager. Can we exist both professionally unprofessionally?

  4. I would like to have an established personal brand or at least begin developing one.

  5. Another goal I have to is to be proficient in the tools needed to excel in the current and future social media.
