When I decided to switch from being vegetarian to vegan, I didn’t know where to start. None of my friends or family members were vegan, so there was no one to guide me with the process. As far as having face-to-face help and inspiration, I was out of luck.
In the age of social media, you can connect with people all over the world, people you would have never found otherwise. This is one of the major benefits of social media which brings you to another one: finding accounts that share your unique interests. Finding vegan even before I transitioned into veganism was a very critical part in my “journey.” These accounts provided me with recipes, personal experiences, information on veganism, and inspiration to fully commit.
However, there is a downside to immersing yourself into the Instagram world of whatever your interest is: everything you see is perfect. Sometimes I feel really lame on the vegan spectrum because I’m not making vegan bento boxes for lunch every day or whipping up smoothie bowls with fancy ingredients like blue spirulina. Most of the time I just grab a banana or roast some chickpeas that I later smother in ketchup (it’s good, don’t judge.)
What I’ve learned in the past 9ish months of being vegan is that there’s no “right” way to do it as long as you stick to the guidelines. I realized it’s ok for me to eat Chick-fil-A waffles fries for dinner instead of preparing a kale salad. After all, I am in college!
Here are a few of my favorite vegan accounts:
